The Weekend Edit

CM The Weekend Edit 1

I’m a big fan of a pared-down routine for the weekend. During the week, I am all about contour, smokey eyes, lipstick, and properly set makeup with many pats of my little sponge. I’ve even started doing my brows properly with a little powder. (Where will it end?)

On the weekend, however, it all gets a bit simpler. While I’m loath to leave the house with a totally bare face (the horror!), I don’t mind if the pals I am meeting for Saturday brunch see me looking a little “un-polished”, or basically, just a bit more natural. Also, of course, this simpler routine takes much less time, which is ideal for my weekend buddy, who practically lives in the office during the week and therefore (luckily) doesn’t see how long I take on those mornings…

After moisturising, I apply a little bit of the Lierac Diopticerne Teinté, which is essentially a tinted eye cream which brightens and covers any under-eye darkness. Afterwards, I’ve been using 10-12 drops of the Glossier Perfecting Skin Tint, which is essentially a super sheer silicone-y fluid, and sets nicely without powder. I blend it in with my fingers, and then it needs about a minute to properly set and settle, during which I do my brows, with the Chosungah 22 Dong Gong Minn Brow Maker, which shades and defines all at once.

If the Lierac tint wasn’t enough to cover the excesses of the previous night (read: falling asleep in front of Kimmy Schmidt while drinking most of a bottle of white), then the new concealer from Bare Minerals, called Bare Skin Complete Coverage Serum Concealer, is my current favourite. Super creamy and blendable, and highly pigmented, but doesn’t move during the day, even in this HK monsoon season.

To make my skin look a little alive, I’ve been using the new Milk Makeup Matte Bronzer under the cheekbones and jaw, and on my temples, and blending it out with the Tom Ford Cream Foundation Brush, which is my gold standard (but so expensive grrr) brush for contour. The Milk bronzer is very blendable, buildable and pretty, but it is really nothing more than a cream bronzer in a stick – I wouldn’t say it is life-changing (just #beingreal). Afterwards, a little dot of RMS Lip2Cheek in Modest on the cheeks and a teeny bit on the lips.

Finally, a pretty cool new product, also from Milk Makeup – the Weekend Lash Stain. This really isn’t a mascara, but a 2-day lash tint, so you can’t really expect any volumizing or curling, but for darkening the lashes so you don’t have to think about them until Monday morning, it’s pretty great. The formula is very liquidy, so you have to have a steady hand when applying, but once it’s dried, it’s on.

And that’s it! Only a few products to look at least a little bit groomed and awake, which is what we want on a Sunday grocery store run, no? They are all great for travel as well, as they are all very light to carry, for little weekends away.

*Nice alternatives for brows: Glossier Boy Brow or Benefit Gimme Brow, both good, and the Benefit one is easier to find if you’re in Europe. Damn shipping restrictions.
